QUEZON CITY, Philippines – An emotionally intense and heart-wrenching moment unfolded at the Philippine Heart Center as Meagan Aguilar, daughter of the legendary OPM icon Freddie Aguilar, reportedly broke down in uncontrollable tears and fainted upon receiving the devastating news of her father’s death.
Freddie Aguilar, known across generations for his globally beloved song “Anak,” passed away at 1:30 AM on May 27, 2025, at the age of 72 due to cardiac arrest, brought on by complications from pneumonia and kidney failure. But while fans across the nation mourned in silence, it was Meagan’s reaction that pierced the silence with raw grief.
“She screamed and collapsed” — Witnesses Speak
According to sources close to the family and bystanders at the hospital, Meagan arrived visibly distressed, but nothing could have prepared her for what she was about to hear. The moment she was told the heartbreaking truth, she reportedly let out a piercing scream before collapsing to the ground, prompting immediate medical attention.
“She kept crying, ‘Daddy, please don’t leave me!’ over and over,” said one nurse who was present. “We had to assist her because she was shaking uncontrollably and then she fainted.”
A Complicated Yet Deep Bond
Despite previous public rifts and misunderstandings between Meagan and her father — including highly publicized falling-outs over personal and political beliefs — those who knew them best say their bond never truly broke. The pain she expressed at the hospital was proof of the deep love and connection she still had for her father.
“She always longed for his approval and love,” said a close family friend. “No matter what happened in the past, he was still her father — her Ka Freddie. And now that he’s gone, it has shattered her.”
Outpouring of Support from Fans and Friends
As Meagan was taken in for observation following the emotional shock, fans online flooded her social media pages with messages of love and strength. “Stay strong Meagan, your father loved you,” one netizen wrote. Another added, “Freddie is proud of you. You carry his blood, his voice, his legacy.”
Final Goodbye
Freddie Aguilar’s wake is expected to be attended by a sea of supporters, celebrities, musicians, and national figures. As preparations for his tribute begin, many hope that his passing might also heal old wounds within the Aguilar family, allowing them to come together in unity as they say goodbye to one of the country’s most influential musical voices.
Father and son Freddie and Maegan Aguilar, fortunately they reconciled before passing away
Many netizens were shocked by the death of one of the Original Pilipino Music (OPM) icons, Ka Freddie Aguilar, who was famous for his contributions to the music industry because of his memorable songs, some of which were even used as theme songs and movie titles.
And when people say “Ka Freddie,” the first song that comes to mind is his award-winning song “Anak” which even had a translated version in various countries. It also became the theme song and title of the movie starring Star For All Seasons Vilma Santos-Recto and Optimum Star Claudine Barretto.
Speaking of children, one of the people netizens remembered upon the news of Ka Freddie’s passing was his daughter, singer Maegan Aguilar.
It is public knowledge that the two had a misunderstanding, it took a long time before they reconciled, and this happened in 2023.
After various issues in their family, on November 21, 2023, the father and son met again, which made fans and followers very happy.
Maegan said that she finally hugged her father, Ka Freddie.
“Finally, I hugged my father again,” Maegan’s Facebook post reads.
“I love you, dad, thank you for accepting us and me. I missed you so much, dad & looking forward to spending more quality time with you and the kids and the rest of our family. May God bless us always.”
In Ka Freddie’s Facebook post, he showed off his family dinner with Maegan and his grandchildren.
“We had early dinner tonite together with my daughter Maegan, my grand daughters Layla Sky, Mahi Vae and Anaya ALHAMDULILLAH,” said Freddie. On April 9, 2025, Freddie celebrated Maegan’s birthday with her grandchildren.
“Maegan’s birthday todayHappy happy birthday anak and may you have many many more birthdays to come. We love you and miss you All the best Megs In Sha ALLAH,” said Freddie. So with the passing of the OPM icon, netizens said that it was good that the two were given a chance to reconcile.
