Here’s why Kiray Celis requested a ₱1-million engagement ring from Stephan Estopia.

Kiray Celis opened up about why she requested a ₱1 million engagement ring from her longtime partner, Stephan Estopia.

In an interview with Julius Babao on his YouTube vlog, Kiray candidly shared that her specific request was one of the reasons Stephan took a while to propose.

“One of the reasons he couldn’t go through with the proposal right away was because I told him the minimum price for the ring should be one million pesos,” she revealed.

When asked why she set such a high amount for the ring, the actress-entrepreneur explained:
“If you’re going to propose marriage, the ring should cost at least one million because if ever we need money, of course, I could sell the ring.”

She added:
“It’s true, right? If we end up with nothing to eat, there’s always the ring. Not that I plan to sell it, but in case of emergency—just in case anything happens.”

Kiray also highlighted her role as her family’s breadwinner and how her past experiences have made her realize the importance of being financially prepared.

“Two years ago, I lost my sister-in-law, but at that time, I had just bought a car. I didn’t realize how expensive it is to buy land for a burial, how costly coffins are. That’s when I realized there are still so many things I need to prepare for—things that are out of my control,” she said.

She continued:
“As the breadwinner, I have to think about the future. What if something happens? Hopefully nothing bad, but still—there should be a backup plan. I don’t want us to be in a situation where we have to borrow money.”

Stephan eventually proposed with a three-carat diamond ring.

In the same interview, Kiray also shared some details about their upcoming wedding, which will take place this year in Manila.

She mentioned that she already finalized her list of godparents and bridesmaids.
“Actually, I prioritized choosing the godparents and bridesmaids first because I wanted to secure them, especially since the wedding will be very intimate,” she shared.

Kiray emphasized that she wants the event to be personal, with only close friends and family in attendance.

“My wedding coordinator asked if I wanted it to be star-studded. That would make it trending, of course,” she said. “But I decided I just want people who are really close to me—those who truly know me and Stephan—so it feels relaxed, like a close-knit gathering, a real friends-and-family vibe.”
