In a jaw-dropping moment that no one saw coming, comedy icon Vic Sotto and actress-host Maine Mendoza have broken their silence and publicly addressed the long-standing speculations about their real relationship — and yes, it’s the confession fans and critics alike never expected!

During a surprise appearance at a press event, the two were asked a question that’s been lingering for years: “Ano nga ba talaga ang relasyon nila sa isa’t isa?” (What is the real relationship between the two of you?) After a moment of tension and glances exchanged, Vic finally took the mic and said with a smile, “Panahon na siguro para malaman ng lahat ang totoo.”

Maine Mendoza, visibly emotional, nodded and added, “We’ve always shared something special… and we never wanted to lie about it. But we also didn’t want it to be misunderstood.”

The room fell silent before erupting with gasps and flashes of cameras as the two shared a heartfelt exchange. While they didn’t give away every detail, their body language and emotional statements hinted at a much deeper connection than fans had imagined — far beyond their on-screen collaborations.

Speculations about the two have long circulated, especially during the height of the AlDub phenomenon, when their chemistry on-screen became a national obsession. But Vic and Maine always kept their bond low-key and professional — until now.

The online world exploded within minutes:

🔻 “WHAT?! I did NOT see this coming!”
🔻 “Vic and Maine? This is bigger than a teleserye twist!”
🔻 “Finally, the truth is out. I KNEW there was more to their closeness!”

However, not all reactions were positive. Some netizens expressed concern due to the age difference and speculated timeline. Others defended the duo, calling their honesty “refreshing” and “brave” in an industry full of secrets.

Vic Sotto says Maine Mendoza is now enjoying being a performer
Vic Sotto on Maine Mendoza: “It’s like a son… for a father-daughter, there’s forever.”
It’s not new for Vic Sotto and Maine Mendoza to play a father and mother.

They played father and mother in the movie My Bebe Love (2015) and in the Eat Bulaga! 2018 Lenten special “Taray Ni Tatay.”

And this will be repeated in GMA-7’s upcoming sitcom Daddy’s Gurl.

According to Vic, “It’s my first time to work with her in a sitcom, in a movie, I already have.”

This is Maine’s first sitcom and Vic commented, “She’s a good actress.

“And we felt that she deserves to be given a role in a sitcom, in a movie, she’s a little bit cute, acting-acting.

“But the full comedy really, it’s a first for Maine.

“I knew that even before we started, I knew that she could deliver.

“She has very good timing, if you get to watch the ‘Barangay Joker,’ the ‘Pamilya Nunal…’

“You can see the snippets, the punchline, the timing, she has it.

“She has substance, she has a history. She’s not the one who just reads the script, she just swallows the script.”

The veteran comedian added, “We have signed a contract… with father-daughter, there is forever.”

Apart from this, Vic and Maine will be fathers again in Jack Em Popoy: The Pulis Incredibles, an entry in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival.

LIKE A DAUGHTER
Even in real life, Vic is said to treat Maine like his own child.

He said, “Back then, you know, TVJ [Tito, Vic, and Joey] just took care of someone.

“It’s not just taking care of someone, it’s the personal attachment to us.

“Everyone who passed by us, even the children.”

Vic was referring to Aiza Seguerra, Ryza Mae Dizon, and Baeby Baste.

“Jimmy Santos!” Vic couldn’t help but insist.

He continued seriously about Maine, “That’s really, like a child.

“I remember in our movie My Bebe Love, we were at the parade, he suddenly said. “‘Boss, are we really good at being fathers?’ I said, ‘Yes, of course.’”

Does Maine also ask him for advice?

“Sometimes, but the truth is, she’s a very shy person. It takes time for her to be very comfortable.

“It’s just me, I’m often mistaken for a brat in person, even better on TV, waving.

“But that’s me, eh, I’m shy. I’m just quiet. I’m the more of a listener in the group.”

She said her Eat Bulaga! friends, Joey de Leon and her older brother Senator Tito Sotto, are talkative.

Vic laughed and said, “If I talk, who else will listen to them?”

WATCHING OVER MAINE
Since Maine actually started on Eat Bulaga!, Vic said he could say that he’s seen her growth as an actress.

“Of course, since I met her on Dubsmash, on Aldub, you can see her development.

“Her leveling up as an actress before, I must admit, it didn’t seem like she felt it.

“As long as she enjoys what she does. But I saw her progress as a performer.

“When you say performer, that includes everything… social media, television, movies, commercials, endorsements, that’s all included.

“As a performer, I saw and felt—we, not just me—that it was developing, that it was in her system.

“It’s no longer, ‘I’ll do this because I’m being made to do it.’”

“No, she really wants to. I can see, she enjoys it.”

Maine said she really didn’t have it in her heart to enter showbiz when she suddenly met him on Eat Bulaga.

Vic said, “Even if you watch her audition tape on Eat Bulaga.

“The questions she was asked were, ‘Can you dance?’ ‘No.’

“‘Can you sing?’ ‘No.’

“‘What do you know?’ ‘Dubsmash.’ She was not aware.

“If he has changed, it’s on a positive note. I told you, he feels better, he enjoys it more.

“Before, I felt like he was burnt-out. I, personally, felt that.

“Actually, the key word there is enjoy, like us as time goes on.

“We enjoy what we do. On Eat Bulaga, we enjoy it.”
