The Final Farewell: Superstar Nora Aunor Laid to Rest — A Nation Mourns

The entertainment world and millions of devoted fans stood still as the Philippines bid a tearful farewell to its beloved Superstar, Nora Cabaltera Villamayor — more fondly known as “Ate Guy” — whose burial marked the end of an era and the beginning of a lasting legacy.

Veteran actresses who once starred alongside Nora were seen crying inconsolably. Directors who had once worked with her spoke emotionally about how Nora’s unmatched talent and magnetic presence elevated not just the films she starred in, but the entire industry itself.

One particularly gut-wrenching moment captured on video showed a famous singer kneeling by Nora’s casket, singing a soft, trembling version of one of her most famous ballads — a tribute that left the audience sobbing.

As the casket was lowered into the ground, there wasn’t a single dry eye in sight. Loud sobs echoed across the cemetery.

National Artist Nora Aunor laid to rest
Friends, family, and fans were emotional as National Artist for Film and Broadcast Superstar Nora Aunor was taken to her final resting place.

On Tuesday, April 22, people flocked to the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City to attend the veteran actress’s state funeral.

Nora was buried in Section 13 of the cemetery, along with other national artists and scientists. Nora was laid to rest next to her was the director of her film Himala, Director Ishmael Bamal.

Before the funeral, state necrological services were held in tribute to Nora at the Metropolitan Theater, Manila this morning.

The Superstar’s family and children, Ian, Lotlot, Matet, Kiko, and Kenneth de Leon, were present. Several National Artists also paid tribute by offering flowers as a mark of respect and love for the Superstar.

Angeline Quinto and Jed Madela also performed a song. They sang the heart-warming song “Superstar ng Buhay Ko.”

Veteran writer Ricky Lee shared a message that brought tears to the eyes of the audience:

“Your story is not over yet, it is just beginning. Your name is a name we will always answer tirelessly to future generations so that they will never forget that once upon a time, there was a star that never faded and shone in the sky of our lives. You loved us so much that there was almost nothing left for yourself. Let us love you too forever,” Ricky Lee said.

In 2022, Malacañang honored Nora Aunor as one of the seven Philippine culture and arts figures to be named National Artists of the country. She was named National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts along with screenwriter Ricky Lee and late director Marilou Diaz-Abaya.

Nora is best known for her award-winning performance in the Pinoy classic film Himala.

Nora has also worked with several Kapuso stars in various projects. Some of these include the film Mananambal (2025) where she co-starred with Bianca Umali, as well as GMA shows such as Lilet Matias: Attorney-at-Law (2024) and Onanay (2018).
