BREAKING: Vice Ganda Confronts Ricky Reyes & Renee Salud Over Their Opposition to Same-Sex Marriage! 😱🌈🔥
A bold clapback from the Unkabogable Star shakes the LGBTQ+ community—Vice doesn’t hold back!
🎤 The Controversial Statement That Sparked the Fire
In a recent interview that quickly made waves online, veteran beauty icon Ricky Reyes and fashion designer Renee Salud shared their opposition to same-sex marriage, stating:
“Marriage is sacred. It’s between a man and a woman.”
“Gays can love, but not marry. That’s our belief.”
Their words sent shockwaves across social media, especially from within the LGBTQ+ community, who felt deeply hurt and betrayed—especially because the statements came from two openly gay public figures.
⚡ Enter Vice Ganda: A Clapback Heard Around the Country
Never one to shy away from speaking her truth, Vice Ganda quickly responded in a powerful and emotionally charged statement during an appearance on It’s Showtime and later through her social media accounts:
🗣️ “We’ve fought too long and too hard for our love to be invalidated by our own kind.”
“Being gay doesn’t give you the right to limit the freedom of other gays. That’s hypocrisy, not pride.”
Vice didn’t mention names directly, but the message was clear—and it hit hard.
🌈 LGBTQ+ Community: “Vice Said What Needed to Be Said!”
Vice’s bold stance drew overwhelming support from fellow artists, LGBTQ+ advocates, and even political figures:
“Vice speaks not just for herself, but for an entire generation who refuses to stay silent.”
“We respect Ricky and Renee, but their views are outdated. Love wins. Always.”
Hashtags like #LoveIsLove, #ViceGandaForEquality, and #RespectSameSexMarriage immediately trended on X (Twitter), while Vice’s statement was reshared thousands of times on Facebook and Instagram.
🤔 Ricky & Renee: Defiant or Misunderstood?
Following the backlash, Ricky Reyes defended his position in a follow-up interview:
“I stand by what I said. It’s my belief. That doesn’t mean I don’t respect others.”
Renee Salud echoed a similar sentiment, saying:
“I love the gay community. I’ve lived my life as one. But marriage, for me, is still between a man and a woman.”
However, critics pointed out the double standard—why be part of a community, yet deny it the right to celebrate love equally?
🧠 The Bigger Picture: A Community Divided?
This controversy has sparked a larger conversation about internal prejudice within the LGBTQ+ community. Many are now asking:
Can someone be proudly gay and still oppose same-sex marriage?
Is tradition a valid excuse to restrict someone else’s happiness?
Should influential LGBTQ+ figures be held more accountable for their statements?
Vice Ganda’s confrontation opened not just wounds—but a much-needed national dialogue.
💬 Vice’s Final Words
In one of her final tweets on the matter, Vice wrote:
“Let people marry who they love. Don’t fight for freedom only to take it away from others.”
And just like that, the Unkabogable Star became the voice of an entire movement once again.
One voice, one stand, and one message: Love is love—no exceptions.
The battle for same-sex marriage in the Philippines just got louder—and Vice Ganda is leading the charge. 🌈💪🔥
LGBTQ icons Ricky Reyes, Renee Salud not in favor of same-sex marriage
LGBTQ trailblazers Ricky Reyes, commonly known as Mother Ricky, and Renee Salud, fondly known as Mama Renee, expressed their disapproval of same-sex marriage, explaining that it’s already “overboarding” and “entitlement.”
Reyes and Salud sat down with Toni Gonzaga for a recent interview where they were asked about their stance on same-sex marriage.
Reyes, who has been with his partner Cris Aquino for more than four decades, explained that marriage should only be between a man and a woman.
“Marriage is just for a man and a woman. Don’t interfere with God’s work, it’s already there, right? That’s overboarding. That’s not right,” he said.
The beauty guru noted that for him it is already enough that the public has given “tolerance” toward the LGBTQ community.
“That is more than acceptance. That is what I am saying, toleration is more than acceptance. Because what you are facing is not the same, and not everyone accepts homosexuals. Adapt yourself to the right situation,” he said.
Reyes also mentioned his objection to the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression or SOGIE bill.

“And I’m the one who stopped the SOGIE bill. What I said is, no matter what you do to gay people, they’re still gay. Grind it up, and that gay hamburger is out. Nothing’s changed,” he said.
Space or entitlement?
Meanwhile, Salud explained that he is supportive of LGBTQ community members getting their space, but they should not ask for “too much.”
“As for me, go ahead and give them rights, give them a space in society, but the problem with some gays is that they ask for too much. Too entitled,” the fashion designer said. “If you’re only going to pursue marriage for the legalities because of the division of wealth or properties, you can discuss it. Just be partners in that aspect.”
Following their remarks, the non-profit organization Rainbow Rights Philippines, where Filipina drag queen Pura Luka Vega serves as Advocacy Officer, posted a lengthy explanation debunking the “misconceptions” on same-sex marriage and the SOGIE bill.
“Ang kasal po bukod sa doktrina ay karapatang pantao na ipinagkakait dahil sa makitid na pag-interpreta na ito ay sa pagitan ng lalaki lang at babae,” read the statement in part
