Beauty queen and TV personality Rabiya Mateo recently suffered a painful — and unexpected — accident while enjoying a thrilling day of wakeboarding. What was supposed to be an exciting adventure turned into a dental emergency when she broke a tooth mid-ride, leaving fans in total shock.
What Happened?
According to Rabiya, she was attempting a sharp turn on the water when she lost her balance and hit the board hard with her face. The impact was so intense that it caused one of her front teeth to snap — right in the middle of her smile.
“I was having so much fun… and then boom! Biglang may naramdaman akong sakit sa bibig. Pagtingin ko, wala na ‘yung kalahati ng ngipin ko!” she recounted in a vlog, still visibly shaken.
The Aftermath
Footage of the incident — now going viral — shows Rabiya being helped back to shore, clutching her mouth and clearly in pain. Despite the injury, the former Miss Universe Philippines stayed surprisingly calm and composed, even managing a light-hearted comment:
“Mukhang hindi muna ako makangiti ng buo sa mga photoshoot!”
Fans and fellow celebrities flooded her social media with well wishes and supportive messages, applauding her bravery and sense of humor.
Dental Emergency
After the incident, Rabiya was rushed to a nearby dental clinic where she received emergency treatment. Her dentist confirmed that while the injury looked scary, it was repairable, and she’d be back to flashing her signature smile soon.
“We’re working on a dental fix — don’t worry, babalik ang ganda ng ngiti niya!” said her doctor.

Rabiya later posted a safety message on Instagram reminding her followers to wear protective gear even during recreational sports.
“Lesson learned: safety first, kahit feel mo pro ka na sa wakeboarding!”

Rabiya Mateo suffers bruises on face, broken tooth after wakeboarding
MISS Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo suffered minor injuries after being hit by a wakeboard while on vacation.
On Instagram Stories, the beauty queen-actress shared what happened to her.
In the video, she showed off a purple bruise on one side of her cheek and under her eye, as well as a broken tooth.
She began the post, “Part of being adventurous is experiencing accidents.” Rabiya’s friend, “Got hit by a wakeboard. Chipped my tooth. Got some bruising and swelling on my left face.”
Despite that, she is still positive: “Still, life is good. Thank you, Lord!”
In the following video, the beauty queen showed that she had already visited a dental clinic to get her damaged teeth fixed. If you recall, Rabiya became known after she was crowned Miss Universe Philippines in 2020 and became the country’s favorite in the Miss Universe competition in the same year.
Although she did not take home the crown, she entered showbiz under GMA Network where she was given acting and hosting projects.
