Renowned talent manager and showbiz insider Ogie Diaz apologized to It’s Showtime host Vhong Navarro for allegedly stealing his moment.

Vhong Navarro and his supporters are now celebrating because the Taguig Regional Trial Court has released the decision on the case filed by Vhong Navarro against Cedric Lee, Deniece Cornejo and two others involved in illegal detention with ransom where they have been sentenced to reclusion perpetua or imprisonment for at least 40 years.

However, it seems that Ogie Diaz and Cristy Fermina stole Vhong Navarro’s ‘moment’ because actress Bea Alonzo went to the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office to file three separate cases of cyber libel against them.

Meanwhile, netizens immediately noticed Ogie Diaz’s apology to Vhong Navarro for stealing the moment in the ‘share a thought’ feature of Messenger.

“Sorry, Vhong! Your moment, we still took it.”

On the other hand, Ogie Diaz previously gave a statement on the case he is facing against him filed by Bea Alonzo.

He apologized to his fellow reporters who were asking for a statement from him regarding the cyber libel case filed against him by actress Bea Alonzo.

Ogie Diaz said he understands the curiosity of news reporters, so he will answer all questions at the right time.

Ogie Diaz, 51, proved that the world of showbiz was small at the time he and Vhong Navarro, 44, had a falling out.

In 1999, or more than two decades ago, they became co-stars in the Kapamilya sitcom Pwedeng Pwede.

It stars Robin Padilla, Redford White, Nida Blanca, and Kris Aquino. The cast also includes Palito, Vanessa del Bianca, and Marissa Sanchez.

The sitcom aired from September 1999 to October 2001.

In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), Ogie was a blind item when he first talked about the issue between him and Vhong.

“There was an actor who, when he saw me, bowed. He didn’t want to see me.

“So, when we had a sitcom, he was sad when he heard that I was in the sitcom,” Ogie recalled.

It turned out that Vhong was awkward for him because he was a known showbiz reporter and it seemed that he had once been involved with the actor because of some intrigue he was involved in before.

Ogie allegedly found a way to talk to Vhong in depth.

“So, I took him to the dressing room. I told him, ‘You know, I’m not a reporter now. I’m an actor, I’m a comedian now.

“‘If you feel like I’m doing something wrong to you, or if there’s a chance I’ve been holding you back, I’m sorry. Please forgive me.

“‘I just don’t want to have a coworker who is mean to me because it would ruin my brand of comedy if I knew I was with someone who didn’t like me,’” Ogie humbly told Vhong.

Ogie added to PEP.ph, “Since then, we’ve been very close.

“The industry is so small that you can make enemies, and then you’re the one who bows down when you meet them because you don’t want to see them, right?”

OGIE DIAZ INTERCEDES FOR VHONG TO MEET HIS ELDEST SON
Vhong reportedly proved Ogie’s loyalty when Vhong had a child with his ex-partner. Apparently, the couple had separated when the baby was born, and Ogie was the one who allowed Vhong to meet his eldest son.

Ogie became friends with Vhong’s ex-partner, but he never mentioned his name.

“This friend of mine who gave birth to him, he realized that he couldn’t hide the child from his father because the child was looking for a father figure.

“So, I was the one who helped my friend to be a bridge so that they could meet the child. So, I made a way.”

Ogie said that he advised Vhong to meet his child, whom he had never seen before.

He said that it was undeniable that his child resembled Vhong.

Ogie said: “And then, when they met, I said, ‘Father, it’s you. Look at the child’s face, it looks like you when the child was young. It’s your child.’

“So, that’s it, blood rushes. It’s his child. From then on, we’ve been very close.”

He said that he and Vhong were not just friends but also peers.

Ogie said, “I even got my son’s godfather. I’m also his son’s godfather.

“And the funny thing is, the godfather of my eldest son is the one he had.”

TRIED-AND-TESTED FRIENDSHIP
Ogie is happy that he and Vhong have remained close friends for more than two decades.

The length of their friendship is almost the same as Vhong’s eldest son Frederick, who is now 23 years old.

In August 2020, Frederick graduated from the Information Technology course at the University of Sto. Tomas Institute of Information and Computing Sciences in Manila.

Ogie also said about Vhong: “That’s why he always brags about me to his friends. ‘This, that day I was angry with him, eh. I didn’t know I would be close to him in person.’

“My friends [Vhong’s friends] say it because they can reach me.

“‘I didn’t know that because of him I would meet my eldest child.’”

At this point in the PEP.ph interview, Ogie said that his blind item story was about It’s Showtime host Vhong.

Ogie said, “That’s why the ending was, I was the instant godfather of one of his children. That was Vhong Navarro.

“Vhong and I are like that. We are so close. When we talk, there’s no showbiz.

“That’s why he always says, ‘This, when you talk to him, is not a reporter. You don’t need to tell him to go off the record.’

“He knows that when you tell him, it’s only him. That’s how we are.
