Until recently, Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez’s six-year-old son Nate was not aware that his “Ninang Michelle” — the Australian beauty queen who became a well-loved actress in the Philippines — is also his father’s former wife

The singer couple, who got married in 2010, had originally planned to tell Nate about the fact once he turns 10, “para medyo maiintindihan niya.”

But Nate already displayed curiosity, such as when he asked how it is that his older sisters, Leila and Sarah — Alcasid’s daughters with Michelle van Eimeren — don’t seem to have an obvious resemblance with him.

At Nate’s age, Alcasid and Velasquez did not expect that Nate would manage to find out the reason by himself.

“Did he tell his mother, ‘Mommy, Dad was married to Ninang Michelle!’ He said that! Regine, it was like, ‘Ha?! How did you know?’ ‘I googled it!’” Alcasid narrated during a recent press conference for his 30th anniversary concert, “OA,” to be held at the Araneta Coliseum on August 24.

“Then we said, ‘How do you feel?’ ‘I’m happy,’ he said, ‘It’s okay!’ That’s it,” Alcasid recalled, as quoted by PEP.ph.

Van Eimeren, who is based in Australia with her current husband, Mark Morrow, had been worried about Nate’s reaction, Alcasid revealed. But it turned out that the concern was unfounded.

Alcasid and Van Eimeren, whose marriage was annulled in 2007, have formed an extended family with their respective current spouses.

Their eldest daughter, Leila, currently lives with Alcasid in the Philippines, while their second, Sarah, is based in Australia with her mother

Sharing his conversation with van Eimeren, Alcasid said: “‘Oh, Nate knows already.’ He said, ‘Oh no! Is he okay?’ Because that’s the concern. ‘Yeah, he’s very happy!’ At least we don’t have to tell him anymore. He’s just kidding.”
