Janine Gutierrez’s family has been devastated by the passing away of her two beloved grandmothers—Asia’s Queen of Songs Pilita Corrales and Superstar Nora Aunor. In just about a week, two pillars of their family were simultaneously transported to their final destination.

In a message shared on her broadcast channel, Janine expressed her grief for her family. “It’s the first time in 10 days that I’m not at a wake. This Holy Week, my siblings and I lost two lolas, mama and papa’s mothers,” the Kapamilya actress said.

Janine said that her Mama, Pilita Corrales, had just finished the funeral on the afternoon of April 16, but they had to call the chapel again at 10 p.m. for a new room on the hill—because of the passing of their Mama Guy, Nora Aunor.

Although it was painful and difficult, Janine shared that they are very grateful for the love and sympathy of friends and supporters. “I think of my two new angels and how they always powered through. I think of how I can continuously make them proud,” he added. She said that even though the last days of their Holy Week were difficult, she found strength from the memory of the two great women in their lives.

Despite her disappointment, Janine returned to work. She was determined to continue her career as a way of remembering and paying tribute to her grandmothers’ contributions to the music and film industry.

Pilita Corrales is the mother of Janine’s father, Monching Gutierrez, while Nora Aunor is the mother of her mother, Lotlot de Leon. Both are recognized as pillars in their respective fields, Pilita as the voice of Asia, and Nora as the Superstar of Filipino cinema.
