Knowing that her mother-in-law was a monster, on the day of the engagement, as soon as she saw the groom’s family coming to the door, the mother-in-law hurriedly brought out a boiled chicken with a rose in its mouth.

Knowing that her mother-in-law was a “famous monster” , who had caused two previous generations of daughters-in-law  to leave in the middle of a rainy night without having time to bring anything , the mother-in-law was mentally prepared.

On the engagement day, as soon as the groom’s family walked through the gate – the woman wearing a golden crown and her eyes glaring sharply was  the legendary mother-in-law  –  the mother-in-law immediately brought out a boiled chicken , holding a bright red rose in her mouth, and placed it right in the middle of the yard.

She put the chicken down and  muttered six words  that sounded like a spell:

“Pay in full – receive in full – step back.”

The whole family was shocked, thinking that the mother-in-law was superstitious and trying to scare them. The mother-in-law sneered:
“Children’s play.”

But just  10 minutes later , when they had just entered the ceremony table and had not yet poured tea,  a series of strange things happened  that left the whole groom’s family  embarrassed and unable to stand still :

–  The betel and areca nut box the groom’s family brought suddenly burst open ,  the betel leaves fell out and were torn to pieces , and  exactly 3 areca nuts fell out, black  as if they had been bitten.
–  The tray of offerings was placed on the table when the table legs broke in half , the offerings  rolled to the ground , and a wedding cake box was opened to reveal…  empty white paper inside .
– The mother-in-law stepped forward to pour water when  the teapot fell from her hand , and water splashed straight onto her skirt,  leaving a red rose-shaped mark in the middle of her stomach .

No one said anything, but everyone  felt a chill down their spine .

Especially when the mother-in-law looked back and saw…  the boiled chicken with a rose in its mouth suddenly changed direction and turned its head, its beak now pointing straight at her , as if in a “warning”.

She turned pale and quickly turned to her mother-in-law, but she only smiled slightly, poured a cup of tea, and slowly said:
— My family is not superstitious, but…  what comes first, must be endured first . My daughter-in-law is gentle, but her mother-in-law… is not very gentle.

The whole groom’s family  was speechless , the engagement ceremony was like it was covered in fog – and  for the first time , the once most arrogant woman in the area  had to keep quiet the whole time .
