Last night in New York it rained like pouring water, the roads were flooded with white. The phone vibrate, I received a message from my husband – Mr. Minh:

“It’s raining too hard, the road is blocked, I guess you should sleep at the company, come back tomorrow.”

After reading it, I paused slightly. The heart aroused a strange feeling—a premonition that was not good. For some reason, instead of reassuring, I felt my chest choke.

Lying down for a long time and not being able to sleep, I opened my phone, unconsciously surfed Facebook. Curious, I clicked on Mr. Minh’s account, scrolled down to the friends section, and then went to the message section. At that moment, I felt like I was struck by lightning across my ears.

On the screen is a conversation between him and a female colleague. The message is also clearly visible:

Brother Minh: “It’s raining so hard tonight, are you afraid if you come to my place for convenience? Staying in the company is boring.”

She replied, “Leave the door open, you go carefully.”

I was stunned, my hands were shaking, my eyes were blurry, and I couldn’t read anymore. How many of the worst images come to mind. But then I hesitated… Am I overthinking it? Maybe they’re just close colleagues? Maybe it’s just a misunderstanding?

Lying in the dark, I felt my heart aching and confused. I couldn’t sleep all night.

The next morning, Mr. Minh came home, his face still awake as if nothing had happened. As soon as he walked in, he smiled:

“Have you had breakfast? I bought spring rolls for you.”

I looked at the box of spring rolls in my husband’s hand, but I felt bitter choking. Unable to hold back any longer, I asked directly:

“Did you really sleep at the company last night?”

Brother Ming was a little stunned, and then nodded:

“Yes, but where do you think you’re going?”

I pulled out my phone, opened the message between him and my colleague, and handed it straight in front of me. He turned pale, stunned:

“I… You peeked at my phone?”

I choked up:

“Don’t shy away. To be honest, where were you last night?”

The air in the house is tense like a string. After a moment of silence, Mr. Minh sighed:

“Yes… I really went to her house. But not as I thought. He and Hang – a colleague – are working on an important project together. Yesterday she was stuck in traffic, she didn’t come back in time, he went to help compile documents. It’s just work.”

I smiled faintly:

“Going to a female colleague’s house in the middle of the night, sleeping until morning, called work? Do you think I’m an idiot?”

Brother Minh was silent, unable to say another word. As for me, my heart ached, but another thought flashed in my head: Maybe I was right, or maybe… There is still a secret that has not been revealed.

And at that moment, my phone vibrate. A message from an unknown number:

“You’re Mr. Minh’s wife, right? I’m Hang’s roommate. You should know the truth last night…”

I looked at the screen, my whole body was cold. What is that truth after all?
