Just 2 days after moving in with my lover, my wife sent me a wedding invitation – thinking my ex-husband was just joking, I went for it, but who would have thought…
I’m Marco, 35 years old, I have it all: a good wife, a quiet home and a stable job in Quezon City. However, because of my love of fun and novelty, I lost the most important thing in my life.
My wife – Alma – wasn’t the type of woman who was very beautiful by “hot girl” standards, but the longer I spent with her, the more I saw Alma as the type of woman I looked up to the more I looked up to her. He was delicate, gentle and always put family first. But I – an ordinary person – didn’t know how to appreciate him.
It all started when I met Rica, the new intern at the company. Rica is young, sweet-talking like candy, always clinging to me “Kuya, I’m tired”, “Kuya, I’m sad”, I feel like a hero. At first it was just coffee, then dinner, and then slowly, I fell into it without realizing it.
Alma didn’t flinch when she found out. He just put the divorce papers on the table. I thought he was scaring me, and kept secretly seeing Rica. Until one day, I came home from work to find that Alma had arranged everything, leaving only the wedding ring and a note:
“I wish you happy with the person you choose. Mauna na ako.”
I was stunned. At first, I was a little nervous, but then Rica took me on a two-day vacation to a hotel in Makati, and I was happy. I said to myself: “I’m young, I’ve lived a long life, what do you care about.”
Unexpectedly after 2 days
But exactly 2 days later, while sitting in the hotel room, I suddenly received a text message from Alma. This is a picture of a wedding invitation.
“Take care of yourself. I’m getting married soon.” – along with an invitation, a clear date and time, the groom’s name is Antonio Dela Cruz.
I was stunned. What? A few days ago, my husband asked me why he was married to someone else. I called out to him, but Alma didn’t answer. I sent dozens of messages but only received a smiley icon in return.
Rick looked at me in amazement and asked a question. I showed him my phone. Ricky’s eyes widened.
— “Oh my God! Is your husband really married to someone else? And so fast?”
I bit my teeth:
— “She’s just acting. He wanted to annoy me. Who wants to get married soon?”
In a rage, I dragged Rica on the wedding day, intending to expose Alma in front of everyone.
The Real Marriage
The party was held at a luxury restaurant in Ortigas, a place Alma used to say she liked, but had previously criticized as a “waste of money”.
Rick and I went inside, getting ready to mock him when I was stunned.
Alma – my ex-wife – was dressed in a pure white wedding dress, a tall, mature man holding hands. That person was none other than my former employer: Antonio – the vice president of the company, who once warned me to “Don’t lose your good wife.”
The guests laughed and greeted them. Alma looked at me, but she didn’t show any surprise. He just smiled softly and turned away, as if I didn’t exist.
Rica took my hand, trembling:
— “You… It’s definitely not a joke. This is a real marriage.”
I was stunned, unable to speak.
A moment of embarrassment
At that moment, I felt like I had been punched in the face. I thought I was smart, but I was just a jerk. I thought my husband would cry and be embarrassed when I lost him, but it turned out I was the one who was embarrassed and embarrassed.
I nodded and quietly pulled Rick out of the restaurant. He complained:
— “Do you still love him? Do you have any regrets?”
I didn’t answer. Because I know, whatever I said at that moment was irrelevant.
A woman who once offered herself to me, was betrayed and abandoned. And then, she was strong and radiant being reborn as a true queen.
Whereas I – I lost a good husband, and I realized that no one else really loved me.
That night, I was sitting alone in a hotel room in Makati, looking at a wedding photo that my friends had sent me. I was in tears.
It’s not because of jealousy. But it was out of despair. Because I understood that I had lost the only woman I once considered the world.
After Alma marries Antonio, Marco’s life falls apart. His job is suspended due to a love scandal, and Rica, his young lover, quickly leaves him for a richer man.
Marco fell into alcoholism, debt, and wandered between furnished rented rooms in Caloocan. Friends gradually drifted away from him, and former colleagues saw him as a cautionary tale.
One night, looking at pictures of Alma’s wedding on the internet, Marco burst into tears:
— “If only I could… If only I knew how to appreciate him sooner.”
In 2043, Marco will be over 45 years old. He worked as a porter in a small factory in Pasig, with thin, silver hair.
One afternoon, while waiting for a jeepney at the station, Marco saw a chaotic crowd: there had been an accident at the intersection. One car lost control and crashed into the median strip. The woman in the passenger seat was seriously injured and had to be pulled out of the crowd.
When their eyes met, Mark was stunned: it was Alma.
The driver – Antonio – died at the scene. Alma was injured but is still conscious. When he saw Marco, he was stunned for a moment, his eyes filled with wonder and sadness.
“Marco… Why are you here?” – his voice was soft.
Marco knelt down, trembling, holding a bloodied hand:
— “Alma… I… I never thought I’d see you like this again.”
The ambulance arrived, and Mark followed. Along the way, he held Alma’s hand tightly as if he was afraid of losing her again.
Alma survived but lost her husband. In the hospital room at St. Luke’s Hospital, Marco sits quietly in the hallway, staring at the glass door.
Alma called out to him. He looked straight into her eyes, calm but deep:
— “How have you lived these last ten years?”
Marco bowed his head:
— “I have lost everything. And I repent every day.”
Alma sighed, looking out the window:
— “I… I have it all. Then it disappeared in a moment.”
After being discharged from the hospital, Alma decided to sell all her possessions in Manila, taking her two young children to live with her elderly mother in Batangas. For some unknown reason, Marco also applied to be a security guard at a nearby factory, which seemed to be closer.
The villagers whispered:
— “Perhaps God has arranged for them to meet again.”
But Alma’s distance remained. One night, under the yellow lights of the street, he said:
— “Marco, we can’t go back to the way we were. I’m sorry, but I don’t forget. I hope you live a decent life for the rest of your life.”
Marcus nodded, tears streaming down his face.
The story doesn’t end with a reunion, but with two people who were once close, now learning to deal with the past. Alma continued to raise her children, Marco chose to live quietly by her side, as a quiet payer.
In the village, people still say: “There are mistakes that lead to a lifetime. But sometimes, it’s in the most difficult circumstances that people find a chance to start over – not for love, but for forgiveness.
