Seeing My Mother Slap My Wife Until Her Mouth Bled, I Left My Wife on the Floor — Then Returned With Something That Left My Mother Speechless…
An and I got married after three years of dating. She’s a gentle, educated woman who always knows how to behave with others. But ever since she entered my family’s home, she became a “thorn” in my mother’s eyes. My mother had always wanted me to marry someone of equal social standing, while An was just an ordinary teacher.
Even the smallest frictions in daily life were enough to make my mother scowl. An tried her best to endure, but the more she tolerated, the more my mother pushed her limits. Stuck between the love for my mother and my wife, I often stayed silent.
That day was my father’s death anniversary. An woke up early to cook and prepared the offerings for the altar. Because of a small mistake — spilling a bowl of soup — my mother exploded. In front of all our relatives, she landed a fiery slap across An’s face. Blood appeared at the corner of her mouth as her frail body staggered and collapsed to the floor.
The room went completely silent. My wife lay there, her eyes brimming with tears, while my mother raised her chin and coldly said:
— “Such a clumsy daughter-in-law, disgracing the whole family!”
I stood frozen, my heart tightening at the sight of An holding her face, but I didn’t rush to her side. Instead, I turned and quickly walked upstairs. Everyone thought I had abandoned my wife, too cowardly to confront my mother. The relatives shook their heads in disapproval, while my mother looked all the more triumphant.
But no one knew — I went upstairs to do something else. I opened the cabinet and pulled out a set of documents I had prepared long ago. It was the land title of our house — the only asset my father left behind. All these years, my mother proudly claimed the house was built from her “sweat and tears” and used it as leverage against my wife. But the truth was, before he died, my father had transferred the ownership papers under my name — his only son.
Clutching the documents, I walked back downstairs. Everyone’s eyes widened in confusion. I stepped up to my mother, placed the land title and will firmly on the table, and said in a calm yet resolute voice:
— “Mother, I’ve stayed silent all these years to keep the peace. But today, you’ve crossed the line. This house is Father’s inheritance to me. If you cannot accept An, then my wife and I will move out. You will live alone in this big house. And I have every document proving ownership. Don’t think you can do as you please just because I’ve been quiet.”
The room froze. My mother’s face went pale. She never imagined her “obedient” son could stand so firmly.
I helped An to her feet and gently wiped away her tears. My voice trembled, but my words were steady:
— “I’m sorry for letting you suffer. But from now on, I won’t let anyone hurt you again.”
My mother trembled, sinking into her chair. For the first time, she had nothing to say. In front of all our relatives, she bowed her head in silence.
From that day on, her attitude completely changed. She spoke less, no longer scolded An, and I knew that shock had made her realize — if she continued, she would lose both her son and her grandchild.
An remained kind, still caring for her mother-in-law despite the wounds in her heart. But it was my stand that day that convinced her this marriage was worth holding on to.
I learned one thing: in a family, sometimes silence doesn’t mean weakness. Sometimes it means waiting for the right moment to stand up and protect the one you love. And when that moment comes, determination changes everything.
