The Philippines is poised to have its first Miss Grand International queen following the termination of the reign of its titleholder, Rachel Gupta of India.

Filipina beauty queen CJ Opiaza is next in line as the first runner-up of last year’s MGI in Thailand.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, MGI announced the end of Gupta’s reign “effective immediately.”

The organization cited her “failure to fulfill her assigned duties, engagement in external projects without prior approval from the organization, and her refusal to participate in the scheduled trip to Guatemala.”

MGI also stressed that Gupta “is no longer authorized to use the title or wear the crown associated with Miss Grand International 2024.”

Gupta, for her part, confirmed that she has stepped down as MGI 2024, saying it was a decision that was “not made lightly.”

In an Instagram post, the Indian beauty queen said her reign has been “marked by broken promises, mistreatment, and a toxic environment I can no longer endure in silence.”

“I ask for your compassion, your open hearts, and your continued support as I take this next step,” Gupta added, saying she will soon release “a full video sharing the details behind this difficult journey.”

Opiaza has yet to make a statement about this new development.
