Two days after Priya’s funeral, the atmosphere in that small house in a village in Bihar was as heavy as lead. Her husband, Amit, had barely slept, his eyes darkened with grief at his wife’s departure. Priya had died suddenly in a motorcycle accident on her way home from the market, and she and her seven-year-old son were left alone.

Although the doctor had concluded that the cause was a severe brain injury, Amit was still in agony, feeling that there was something unclear about his wife’s death.

In the middle of the night, unable to bear the agony, Amit took a bundle of incense and quietly went to the graveyard, a few hundred meters away from home. A cool breeze blew through rows of stone columns, a faint moonlight over Priya’s newly dug grave. Amit was on his knees, trembling with the sunshine, when he suddenly heard a strange sound – as if it was the sound of the ground turning lightly.

He looked up and was stunned: right next to his wife’s grave stood a figure, holding a spade, as if digging the ground.

Amit’s heart was pounding. He hid behind a nearby grave, trying to see clearly. The figure was covered with a cloak, but in the moonlight, Amit recognised a familiar trick – it was Rakesh, Priya’s brother.

Amit was stunned. Why would Rakesh, who cried the most at the funeral, dig his sister’s grave at midnight?

Unable to muster the courage to face him, Amit quickly turned around and called his friend Vikram, who works in the district police force.

The next morning, Vikram and Amit return to the graveyard. Priya’s grave was covered as if it had never been disturbed, but Vikram found traces of new disturbances in the soil. They opened the coffin and asked for permission to investigate, and the horrible truth came out: Priya’s body was still there, but the gold wedding ring on her hand was missing. In its place was a cheap fake ring.

Vikram starts investigating Rakesh. Under the pressure of interrogation, Rakesh confessed: he had a large amount of debt due to gambling. Rakesh knew that his sister had a precious gold wedding ring, so he secretly dug out the grave and took out the ring and repaid his debt by selling it, thinking that no one would know.

Amit was very sad, he did not expect that the person whom his wife always trusted would do such a disgusting thing.

But an even bigger shock came when Vikram checked the traffic camera near the spot where Priya’s accident took place. It turned out that the truck that hit Priya was not an accident. The driver was a henchman of Rakesh’s creditor, who was hired to cause an accident to extort money from Rakesh at all costs.

Although Rakesh did not directly murder his sister, he was aware of the plan beforehand, but he kept quiet, hoping that the creditor would forgive him after Priya’s death.

Amit broke down after knowing the truth. The wedding ring – which was the sacred symbol of the couple – led to the death of his wife.

That night, he returned to the grave, lit the last incense and whispered:
— I’m sorry, dear… I couldn’t protect you.

On a moonlit night, Amit saw his wife’s faint smile, which then disappeared in the night.
