Recently, amid the ongoing counting of votes in the 2025 Senatorial Election, Sagip Party-list Representative Rodante Marcoleta filed a petition before the Commission on Elections. Based on a report on GMA News, he asked the COMELEC for the early proclamation of the Top 6 senate candidates based on the unofficial results.

Rodante Marcoleta

Cong. Rodante Marcoleta earned a total of 14,910,218 votes after 97.36% of the election returns have been transmitted. He is followed by former Sen. Ping Lacson with 14,857,071 votes. Based on the report, in his petition, he cited his votes after 97.23% of the ERs was transmitted.

Marcoleta stated that there is allegedly a statistical improbability that the 7th to 12th Senate candidates will no longer affect the standing of the first six candidates. Based on the report, he requested the COMELEC to make the proclamation of the Top 6.

“Hence, may we respectfully pray that, should this Honorable Commission determine that it is statistically improbable for the rankings of the leading senatorial candidates to be altered based on the official canvass returns, it should consider allowing the early proclamation of the top-ranking Senators whose positions can no longer be reasonably contested,” he stated in his petition.

The COMELEC has yet to speak on the request of Cong. Rodante Marcoleta. Amid five (5) candidates in the Top 12 being their allies, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is disappointed over the Senate Election results and invited the Filipinos to build a powerful opposition.
