Seeing that my husband and I had just sold a piece of land, my mother-in-law came and stayed there for a whole week to force me to give my brother-in-law 1 billion to buy a house.

My husband and I had just sold our ancestral land, and had some capital to start a business and save for our children in the future. Unexpectedly, before we could settle down, my mother-in-law had traveled all the way from the countryside, stayed there for a whole week, and sighed and complained every day:

– “Your sister is getting married soon, they need a decent house. Whatever land you sell for, give her 1 billion as your duty as an older brother.”

At first, I tactfully refused, but she kept on sweet-talking and then threatening me. My husband was stuck in the middle and could only keep quiet. I watched my mother lying on the sofa all day, feeling suffocated. Finally, to keep the peace at home, I gritted my teeth and gathered enough money to give to my mother.

But when I arrived, the scene before my eyes stunned me. There was no such miserable situation as my grandmother had described. My brother-in-law and his wife were living in the  biggest mansion in the neighborhood, with a carved iron gate and a garage full of luxury cars . I was stunned, my hands shaking, realizing that I had just been led by the nose.

That night, I was so angry that I couldn’t sleep. Thinking about the billion I had just lost, thinking about how my mother-in-law had spent her whole life treating my husband and I like a money machine, a crazy thought arose in my mind. Early in the morning, I gritted my teeth and bought a live duck, quietly bringing it to the front door of the mansion.

Neighbors saw and started gossiping. Some whispered, “a duck left at the door is a bad omen,” others said, “something big is about to happen to this house.”

And just as I had expected,  the next morning , when I was about to go to the market, I heard the news that the whole neighborhood was in an uproar:  the commune police and ambulance had arrived at my sister-in-law’s mansion . The door was flung open, everyone rushed in and discovered a horrifying truth that left me speechless…
