Just 7 months after the divorce, my ex-wife gave birth to a child that looked exactly like me. I went to claim the child and was shocked to learn the shocking secret… It turned out that the baby’s father was…
My ex-wife and I divorced after 5 years of marriage. Not because of betrayal, not because of adultery, but because of… “hidden” disagreements that could not be reconciled . She wanted to have children, and I was busy with my career at that time, so I kept putting it off year after year. We were apart in silence, without raising our voices, without fighting over anything – to the point that the court only took 15 minutes.
I thought everything was over, until 7 months later, I received a message from an old friend:
“Have you seen her picture? She looks like you. Blood relations.”
I immediately went to my ex-wife’s Facebook — she had hidden the post from me now — but the friend who sent me the photo, a newborn baby, that face… was me as a child. No mistake.
I’m really scared.
She gave birth. If you count backwards, the baby was conceived about a month before the divorce , which means it… could be mine.
I couldn’t sleep all night, the next morning I took a bus to my ex-wife’s mother’s house in the suburbs. Her mother met me, her face cold:
– “What are you doing here now? Leaving it when it needed it the most, and now the child is born and you want to take it back?”
I choked.
– “I just want to know, is it… my child?”
She didn’t answer. But as I turned to leave, she threw me a DNA test paper.
I opened it with trembling hands, then felt dizzy all over .
Not my child. No blood relation whatsoever.
I was stunned.
So… why does it look exactly like me?
I asked. Her mother was silent for a moment, then hissed:
– “You should ask… your brother. ”
My heart stopped beating.
I have a half-brother – he is 8 years younger than me, and we lived in the same house for a few years when our parents were still together. He and my wife met a few times during the holidays, but I never expected anything.
I rushed back to my hometown, rummaged through old messages, old photos… and then a blurry photo appeared in my memory: last year’s death anniversary, my wife and he sat next to each other the whole time, whispering while I went out to answer the phone.
I texted him. After a few hours of silence, he replied with just three words: “I forgive you.”
I threw the phone on the table. My heart was empty.
My ex-wife – the woman who waited for me for 5 years – ended up pregnant with my younger brother’s child… just a few months after I signed the divorce papers.
Only then did I realize that what made me “exactly alike” was not because I was the child’s father, but because my brother and I shared 50% of our bloodline.
Now everything is clear.
I don’t know if I’m angry, hurt, or simply… lost so much, that I can’t feel anything anymore.
